Since February 2007, CAZALAC is part of the consortium formed up by institutions from three European and three Latin American countries that is developing the CAMINAR project (Catchment Management and Mining Impacts in Arid and Semi-Arid South America; Managing Water Basins and Mining Impacts in Arid and Semi-Arid Regions in South America), which was recently awarded by the European Union.

This three year project financed by the European Union community, with an approved amount of € 1.799.645, has the general purpose of contributing to establish policies, management  strategies and technologies to attain a sustainable management of said water basins in arid and semi-arid zones in South America that are vulnerable to impacts generated by mining activities.
