A nivel global, once de los últimos 12 años (desde 1995 a 2006), se encuentran entre los 12 años más calurosos de la era instrumental (registros desde 1850). La tendencia al aumento de la temperatura superficial en los últimos 50 años ha sido en promedio de 0,13 ºC por década, tendencia que se espera se incremente en los próximos decenios.

World Water Day 2007: Facing Water Shortage – March 22, 2007

This year emphasis will be placed on the increasing importance of water shortage at a world level and the need of larger cooperation and integration that will make it possible to ensure a sustainable, efficient and fair water management, both at an international and local level.

Year 2006

 

World Water Day 2006: Water and Culture – March 22, 2006

Organized by: United Nations Education, Science and Culture Organization (UNESCO). In 1992, United Nations declared March 22 and the World Water Day. Therefore, every country is invited to dedicate this day to develop activities like encouraging public awareness through production and dissemination of documentaries and organizing lectures, panels, seminars and expositions related to the preservation and development of water resources, as well as through the implementation of the recommendations contained in the Agenda 21. The World Water Day (WWD) 2006 was coordinated by UNESCO around the topic "Water and Culture ".

 

3ª International Conference on Early Warning (EWC III) “On the Action Plan” - Bonn, Germany, March 27-29, 2006

This conference is aimed at encouraging the discussion of ideas and generation of proposals on how to implement early warning projects in every continent on order to cover the existing gaps regarding this issue. Organized by: Federal Office of Foreign Issues, Germany; International Strategy to Reduce Disasters (EIRD). This event will be developed based on two main guidelines: (1) Forum on Priorities and Projects, aimed at achieving implementation, which will include a series of early warning specific projects (including issues like earthquakes, droughts, floods, landslides, tropical cyclones, tsunamis, volcanic eruptions or winter storms, and will be categorized as land, water and air threats); and (2) Scientific and Technical Symposium, where issues related to early warning systems at a global level will be discussed.

 

I International Congress on Integral Water Management and Treatment - Cordoba, Argentina; April 26-28, 2006

This congress will take place in Cordoba, Argentina, and the main topics relate to Water and Environment, Water and Health, Economy and Water Legislation, Desalinization, Water Planning and Management, Irrigation and Drainage, Water Treatment and Cleaning, Water and Instrumentation Technologies, etc.

 

XVI International Agriculture Fair - Tel Aviv, May 9-11, 2006

This fair takes place every three years and gathers the most important technological companies and experts on agriculture at an international level.

 

The Future of Drylands - Tunis, Tunisia, 19-21 June 2006

International Science Conference on research, preservation, policies and sustainable development in Arid Zones. Organized by UNESCO together with several international organizations. The conference is organized within the scope of the United Nations’ International Desert and Desertification Year (2006) as part of the joint efforts to achieve the millennium development goals. The conference will also mark 50 years of research on arid zones within the UNO system.

 

On-Line Course on Modeling Floods for Management Purposes – May 17 to July 26, 2006

Post grade course addressed to flood managers, water managers, those responsible for flood modeling, engineers and scientists working on this issue. The course will search for answers to the following questions: ¿How are floods generated and how do they develop along time? ¿What are the best means to design protection plans against floods by using models? ¿What models can be applied to prevent floods? ¿How can flood modeling results be used to inform decision makers?. Main topics (1) flood management and information technologies; (2) flood processes; (3) methods and techniques to prepare flood models; (4) modeling flood generation and propagation; (5) informational exercises on flood modeling. IV RUPSUR Meeting 2006 - Cali, Colombia; November 8-10, 2006

This event was organized by the Universidad del Valle (Cali, Colombia), entitled climate Variability and Climate Change: Impacts on the Millennium Goals Achievement. RUPSUR is formed up by researchers belonging to universities from Ecuador, Peru, Chile, Bolivia, Paraguay, Argentina, Venezuela, and Colombia and its purpose is to contribute to the knowledge and prediction of extreme hydro-meteorological events related to the ENOS phenomenon. V FRIEND World Conference 2006 - La Habana , Cuba November 27 – December 1, 2006

The V FRIEND world conference will be developed in late 2006. This conference’s objectives are to present the results of the UNESCO FRIEND program (Flow Regimes from InternaTional Experimental and Network Data), which has encouraged international cooperation regarding issues like networks and hydrological data exchange.

 

VIII International Conference to Develop Arid Zones - Beijing, China, February 25-28, 2006

Organized by the International Commission to Develop Arid Zones; Chinese Science Academy; FAO; International Center to Research on Agriculture in Arid zones and UNESCO. The following issues will be addressed: Water and soil resources: degradation and preservation; biodiversity: preservation and use; physiological stress: drought, hot and cold conditions and salinity; ancestral knowledge and heritage; oasis sustainable development; and implementation of new technologies and transfer.

 

III International Symposium on Integral Water Management - Bochum, Germany, September 26-28, 2006

It is expected that this symposium will represent a chance to exchange research experiences. Organized by the International Association of Water Science. Main issues to be addressed: From the river  source to the intake – interactions among landscapes, water and societies; risk, vulnerability and protection against flood; water management as a concern; water management as a solution.

 

VII International Conference on Urban Drainage Modeling (UDM) and IV International Conference on Water Sensible Urban Design (WSUD) Melbourne, Australia, April 3-7, 2006.

Organized by the Sustainable Water Resources Institute, School of Engineers of Australia, International Water Association and Australian Rainwater Industry Association.

 

International Conference on Sustainable Rural Development and Far-away Communities - Freemantle, Western Australia, July 10-13, 2006

Organized by the Environmental Technology Center belonging to the University of Murdoch in Perth. Main topics: Environmental Health; Water supply and management; Use of land and food production; Social and cultural Convenience; and Gender and technology.

 

XIV Conference of the International Soil Conservation Organization (ISCO) Marrakech, Morocco, May 14-19, 2006

This forum for experts in various disciplines will focus particularly on semi-arid environments which provide many challenges for the sustainable management of natural resources & adequate food production for a perpetually growing population. Topics will include: water management in a semi-arid environment; desertification; economic evaluation of land degradation; efficiency & cost of anti-erosive structures; environmental effects of soil degradation; institutional, legislative & socio-economic aspects of soil & water conservation. Year 2005

 

November 2005 - VIII ELAFIS

The Latin American School of Soil Physics (ELAFIS), the Water Center for Arid and Semi-Arid Zones in Latin America and the Caribbean (CAZALAC) and Post Graduates’ Association on Agriculture Science of Montecillo, Mexico organized the VIII ELAFIS, where the main topic was: “Soil Physics and Preservation for Water Basin Planning”. This course took place in the Postgraduates’ Association premises in Montecillo, Mexico on November 07 – 18, 2005. Renown teachers from Belgium, Spain, Venezuela, Chile and Mexico will participate in the course.

 

November 2005 - II Regional Conference on Climate Change

II Regional Conference On Climate change developed in  en Sao Paulo on November 6 – 10, 2005.

 

October 2005 - III Symposium Workshop – Wetland Sustainable Management, October 24-28, 2005

This event was carried out in Santiago, Chile and was organized by the Wetland Network of the Science and Technology Ibero-American Program for Development (CYTED) and by the International Inter-Culture Program of the University of Chile. Objectives: To establish a discussion, exchange and integration instance in order to encourage cooperation among research and development centers, planning and management organizations and companies in Ibero-America; and Analyze and discuss water management experiences that contribute to an integral and sustainable water management.

 

April 2005 - IX Work Meetings of the Chilean Committee for the International Hydrological Program

The IX Work Meetings of the Chilean Committee for the International Hydrological Program of the UNESCO CONAPHI – Chile took place in the Santiago Campus of the University of Talca on April 21 – 22, 2005. This time, emphasis was placed on “Water and its impact in the development of Chile, challenge up to 2025".
