Roles of the Main Science Coordinator

  • Developing the following expected output:
    o Digital version of each country’s map and the LAC regional map
    o Database in digital version
    o Indicator by country and for the region in digital version
    o Document to be published in hardcopy and CD (including a written document describing the process, methodologies, etc)
    o Document publication
  • Standardizing Methodology.
    Prepare the software required to prepare indicators of each country and formatting climate data. This will make it possible to determine:
    o Aridity indexes
    o Climatic aggressiveness indexes
    o Penman-Monteith, Fournier, Turc, Ivanov & Thornthwaite indexes
    o Precipitation concentration indexes (PCI)
  • Participating in sub-regional training workshops, which will be aimed at:
    o Calculation procedures and data validation
    o Use of software to standardize procedures
    o Cartography standardization to prepare each country’s reports
  • Consolidating data and preparing a final version of map
    o Receiving data from each country
    o Standardizing maps by country and adjusting data in boundary areas
    o Preparing the regional map
    o Once the regional map is complete, a draft will be forwarded to each country for revision.
    o Preparing the map final version
  • Coordinating actions of the sub-regional coordinators, so that work is done in the same way in every country and sub-region.
  • Keeping sub-regional and project coordinators informed on actions taken and to be undertaken
  • Acting as sub-regional coordinator in the Caribbean

Role of the Science Collaborator

  • Assisting in the project general activities and procedures and activities of the Main Science Coordinator (Dr. Fernando Santibañez).

Roles of Sub-Regional Coordinators

  • Keep in permanent communication with the Map Science Coordinator and with other sub-regional coordinators for eventual questions.
  • Coordinate sub-regional workshops regarding technical information.
  • Coordinate data compilation from countries belonging to the relevant sub-region.

Roles of national coordinators (Focal Points):

  • Compile data, indicating the geographic location of each station
  • Processing and formatting data, calculation of basic indexes
  • Deliver information (electronic database)
