Objectives of the training

The objective of this activity is to train professionals, water resources managers and staff from governmental agencies and institutes in the current advances of remote sensing for water resources management, through a hands-on training using transferable examples from around the globe. 

Specifically, the workshop contributes to:

• Capacity building of early-career professionals on the application of remote sensing application for improved water resources management;
• Training on the available open source software options (R-scripts and Python) for remote sensing applications; and
• Dissemination of web-based tools and methods for using remote sensing data products in data-poor regions of Latin America and the Caribbean.

Expected Outcomes

The expected outcomes and impacts include:

• Capacities strengthen to address water related hazards using remote sensing products
• Online webinars on remote sensing for water resources management available for professionals in Latin America and the Caribbean
• A set of preliminary pilot case studies developed in the region that replicate remote sensing methods for water resources management in vulnerable watersheds
• Publication of online reference manuals and tutorials for the application of remote sensing data products to water resources management for broad dissemination.
