Development of National Drought Atlases for the Caribbean Countries

General Objective

The overall objective of the workshop is to train the participants in the application of the Regional Frequency Analysis using L-moments, to contribute to the development of applications of the procedure in the analysis of extreme hydro-climatic events and the development of the Caribbean Drought Atlas.

Specific Objectives

Specifically, the workshop contributes to: a) capacity building of early-career professionals on the application of the Regional Frequency Analysis using L-moments for applications in hydrology and drought vulnerability analysis;  b) training on the available open source software options (R-scripts and REFRAN-CV; c) increase the number of specialists in the region that are trained in the methodology; and d) generate a set of preliminary drought frequency maps for participation countries of the Caribbean (and selected Latin America countries).
